About Farm Food

Farm Food is a sole proprietorship Personal Chef business, located in the City of Cambridge. I’m similar to a caterer, but do not undertake large-scale events. I specialize in smaller, more personalized cooking for clients.

While I do not have a physical retail location, I go directly to the client and work in their home. I live in Cambridge, but also service customers in Kitchener-Waterloo, Guelph, and Brantford.

I am available to work seven days a week, but I generally have Monday to Friday office hours when I am not out cooking for a client. I bring my own pots and pans and cooking utensils with me when I go to a client's home.

I have cooked many different things for various clients - from Chicken Pot Pie to Beef Wellington and from Beef Stew to a Roast Turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. One of the more interesting things I have been asked to cook is a Hawaiian Macaroni Salad - I had never heard of this before and was pleasantly surprised to learn that there was no pineapple in the recipe.

Farm Food is still in a state of growth but has come a long since I began operations three years ago.  When I first started, not many people had heard of a Personal Chef. For me, customer referrals and word of mouth advertising are great ways to educate people about how my Personal Chef business can serve people.

Though eating is an all-year-round affair, I have two aspects to my business - general meal preparation and dinner parties/cocktail parties. I find that the general meal preparation is pretty steady throughout the year as everyone eats every day. I tend to do more dinner parties and cocktail parties during the Winter season when people are hosting holiday parties.

The Farm Food Difference

Two features that have and continue to set me apart from any other Personal Chef are my personalized menu planning and my grocery service. I do not have a set menu that people choose from. I plan a menu for each client based on their individual food preferences and any special dietary requirements.

As I do all of the grocery shopping for the menu, I also offer to pick up any extra items that the client may require (e.g., laundry detergent, milk, coffee creamer, etc.) I find that my senior clients especially enjoy this service, as it is sometimes harder for them to get out of their homes to pick up these items.

While I have a broad spectrum of clients, a majority of my clients tend to be seniors. I find that more seniors want to be able to live at home as long as possible. However, due to physical ability or health issues, being able to cook for themselves may be a challenge. They may not have the physical strength to cook, the desire to cook for just themselves, or may have special dietary needs (e.g., diabetes, high cholesterol, heart conditions that require a reduced sodium diet).

I can provide a menu for them that suits their needs and still allows them to enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal. I also provide some company when I am there - someone to talk to for a bit.

What gives me an added advantage over other Personal Chefs are my primary strengths, which are being a good listener and having a cheerful disposition - especially since I work in peoples' homes. I love cooking and feeding people - it makes me happy.

I believe that a prospective customer would choose to do business with me based on my personalized service and my personality. It is this service that earned me the Business Star Award for Outstanding Retail/Hospitality put on by the Business Centre Guelph-Wellington in 2015.

As much as I love cooking, I care about the environment too. All of my food waste (peelings, fat trimmings, etc.) are composted. If my clients do not participate in a green bin program, I just bring it home with me!

My dreams for the future of my business are to have a full roster of clients and my own commercial kitchen so that I can increase my service capacity.
